Christian or Christ Follower?

So many times these so called "Christians" condemn people who listen to that sinful rock n' roll, or rap or... well you get the picture. Christians need to guard their hearts but not completely block out the world! Everyone has different ways of reaching out to the world! We don't need to be fighting each other on how to reach out. Christians have all these rules and regulations that we MUST follow. But Jesus didn't live like that and he didn't tell US to live like that! We don't know what kind of music Jesus listened to so we can't say a certain kind of music is bad. It's all about the lyrics, I don't think Jesus cares what kind of beat the music has. Jesus could have listened to rap like kind of music! We just don't know. So next time you're about to condemn someone for listening to rap, how bout you just start loving them instead? Think about it.

James 4:4
Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

1 John 2:16
For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

I think you need to get some things right man! But I like the site though!

lWow! What brought on such a strong post?! Lol!

Well, I will refrain from commenting on anything else here except your ridiculous comments on what kind of music Jesus listened to. None of that music was around 2,000 years ago, so it's false statement... even "rap-like". You should do some research into Hebrew or Jewish music, what you learn may surprise you.

Secondly, you say that "Christians have all these rules and regulations that we MUST follow." Well may I point out that all who claim they're Christians aren't. But that's beside the point... the only 'rules and regulations' that should matter to you, are the ones in the Bible. "If ye love me, keep my commandments." John 14:15

Think about it! ;)

Hey Billy Bob Bully! How's life?
I found your post very interesting! Lately I've been thinking a lot about how my life is different from the life of an unbeliever. For the most part I work in a workplace full of unbelievers, I want them to be able to look not only on the outside of me, my appearance, what I do, what I say, etc., but also on the inside of me, my passions, my attitudes, my heart and see NOTHING but Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is not of this world, this world follows after it's god, Satan.
It is NOT my place to judge the music someone else listens to, it IS my place is to be the only Jesus that others may see.
The whole purpose of life is to glorify Jesus Christ, period. When your heart is set toward that purpose, glorifying God EVERY moment you exist, the rest of life will fall into place. Does this music cause you to set your heart on God? Does this music bring glory to God? Is this not the real, only relevant, question.

P.S. Sorry this turned out to be an epistle :) Let me know what you think!

Well dude from your post you don't sound much like a Christian. Christians do need to block out the world the Bible says that even though we live in this world we are not to be of this world. Which means when someone looks at our life they can tell that we are different because of the way we act and especially the things we listen to. We are a light set on a hill for all to see but if we look like the world no one will see the light. Christians do not HAVE to follow rules and regulations we choose to because we know that God set them in place to better our lives and God chose us so why can't we choose to do what he says He really isn't asking all that much. Your right that we didn't know what kind of music Jesus listened to but we know that He wouldn't have done anything that didn't glorify God. Plus if you like certain styles of music you can probably find that style in Christian music there is and endless amount of different types of Christian music now days. So get out there and read your Bible a little closer and go to Mardels or somewhere and find some music you like.

Hey dude I don't know you so don't take this personal, but from what you said you don't sound very much like a Christian, and Melanie is right cause rap music adapted from African music that wasn't around until after Jesus had long since died and risen and gone to Heaven. So, before you start posting blogs like that do some research so you don't make yourself look bad.

Ok you guys need to read my latest post. And with the music thing yes I went a little far with the rap thing but we don't know what kinda music Jesus listened to! Rap itself isn't bad, the lyrics that are in some rap songs are bad. But it's like a gun, a gun isn't evil but you can use it for evil just like you can use it for good. The same with rap. If you have any other comments feel free to post them.

But your post "Misunderstanding" doesn't really talk about what "Christian or Christ Follower" talks about.

Ok man, we may not know what kind of music he listened to but we do know what kind of music was around at that time. Besides, Jesus was a Jew. And another point, they didn't have such devices as a mp3 player or CD player or whatever. They couldn't go around listening to music all the time. And about the title, Christian and Christ follower are the same thing. Christian means follower of Christ which then turns into Christ Follower! And James does have a very good point. From what you said you really don't seem like a Christian at all. So you need to be very careful about how and what you say. If you're trying to get lost people to listen to you and then believe in Christ, then you should start talking like a Christian should, not like a person trying to justify their worldly actions. Think about it!

Ouch! I think you guys should start some blogs of your own! You apparently have these awesome ideas! Read my latest post "Music issue". It should anwser your questions.

Hey dude. I totally agree with what you said. The issue here is not music, it's legalism. All the rules you have to follow or you're supposedly not a good Christian. Some people would even say you're not a Christian at all. We need to have standards, yeah, but Jesus's second command was love your neighbor as yourself, not follow all theses obscure sebjective rules. So all of you raining fire on this guy, re-examine your lives and your Bible, I ask you, please. And take a stand on important issues, not music. Cause in the grand scheme of things what music you listen to, rules, and legalism don't matter. Showing the unsaved around us a loving example of Christ does.

I agree with you about legalism, Jesus Freak. Legalism is a horrible, joy-killing pit that a lot of people have fallen in to. I don’t think we can ever be “good Christians”, regardless of if we follow all the rules or not… because we are human. I fail in some way every day, more times than I can even remember. (If for no other reason, than because our hearts are deceitful and desperately wicked above all things, more than we can even realize.)
I admit I didn’t do a very good job in trying to state my concerns in my above comment, and I apologize. What bothered me about the ‘music issue’, and prompted me to comment on it, was the how the guy was using ‘we don’t know what kind of music Jesus listened to’ to justify his music. Hey, I don’t use that argument to justify the any of the music I listen to. I like and listen to a wide variety of music, and the only exception in what I listen to is if I’m with someone who will be offended by the music, or if I don’t feel right about it, but it’s my choice and I will answer to God for it.
And as far as the ‘commandments issue’: May I present that Jesus didn’t say the two “Great Commandments” were the only commandments, He stated that all of the others fall under those two categories. One way to look at it: all of His other commandments are just fleshing out those two. I can’t in good conscience throw out everything else the Bible says, for two reasons. First, because Jesus stated that He didn’t come to destroy the law or the prophets. And secondly, because Jesus is the Word and He can’t be separated from the Bible.
We should never look around at other people and compare ourselves to them for either good or bad. The only standard we should hold ourselves to is God’s, as it is the only one the really matters…
…now that’s more along the lines of what I was trying to say.

lol... I think my comment is longer than your post CR! Sorry!!!

Christian Rocker said...

Ok first I'm NOT justifying my listening to TobyMac or Grits or whatever! I'm trying to get you to understand that YOU, or anyone else, can't say that any certain kind of music is bad! The fact that you're posting comments like that proves my point! Also I DIDN'T say that we should "throw out everything else the Bible says". Where did you get that? And how in loving others and God are we comparing ourselves to others? As I said I'm not throwing out everything else in the Bible, I said our lives should lives should be centered around those two commandments. Everything else will become clear if you follow those two with all your heart.
